Did My Tuition Fees Go Up?

  Happy New Year ya’ll! Spring semester is here and as I was going over my course schedule and deciding whether to drop a course, I noticed that my tuition fees had drastically increased. I typically take two courses since this is what my stipend covers but previously I decided to add a third one. After thinking that this may not be a good idea due to my busy schedule I decided to drop the course but not before I realized that my fees had gone up by over $2K! I do remember there being some talk about the increase of fees and there being an open forum regarding this but I was not expecting the increase to be so expensive! De-Stressing after a Natural Disaster

De-stressing after a natural disaster is beyond necessary to get yourself back on track. After last week’s snowstorm, it took me a few days to get back into my normal routine. In today’s culture we have a “if you fall off get right back on and keep going” state of mind. Nevertheless, sometimes we need a break and a moment to reset. Staying in a shelter to keep warm and being without a power for a few days will definitely warrant a break!

While it was not the easiest experience, it honestly was not the worst. If you have ever experienced a tough situation, you know how important it is to not become overwhelmed.  Here are a few of the things I did to keep my spirits up:

1.      Stay busy! I kept myself so busy by completing schoolwork that even the other people at the shelter gave me a pat on the back!

2.      Spirituality. I read my bible and prayed throughout the day. I tried to focus on what God may have been trying to show me.

3.      Positive Thinking. As uncertain, as the situation was I reminded myself that things would get better and most importantly I expected them to get better!

Fall 2021 HEERF & CARES Act Funding is Here!! (FREE Money for College Students!!)💵🤑💰

  A few days ago, I was surfing on my universities homepage and I noticed that there was a message at the top regarding summer II HEERF and CARES Act funding. Since I was enrolled in both summer semesters, I decided to send an email to the person listed as the contact to ask if I could receive more CARES Act funding for the fall semester. Since I had been enrolled in the first part of the summer and had already received funding I was not eligible but I was told that another round of CARES Act funding would be given in the fall! In case you did not know HEERF funding is the Higher Education Emergency Relief Act that was enacted for college students due to the pandemic. HEERF provides billions of support in education through CARES Act funding for enrolled students. 2021 FAFSA Tips!

  So I recently completed my FAFSA and per usual it took less thank fifteen minutes. This got me to thinking on a few helpful tips for those completing the FAFSA for the first time or those who were resubmitting like myself. I know FAFSA can be stressful for some and a breeze for others so these tips will serve both sides of the coin.
